Page speed is a ranking factor and a conversion factor: slow pages lose visitors before they ever see your content. This test combines two views: an instant check of how fast your server responds (time to first byte, compression, caching, redirects) and a full Lighthouse run with the Core Web Vitals Google measures in Chrome.

Test both mobile and desktop: Google ranks on the mobile experience, and mobile scores are usually substantially lower. Fix the biggest opportunities first. They're ranked by how much load time they would save.

Frequently asked questions

Where do the scores come from?

Lighthouse scores and Core Web Vitals come from Google's official PageSpeed Insights API, called directly from your browser, the same engine behind pagespeed.web.dev. The server-response checks (TTFB, compression, caching) are measured by our own server.

What's the difference between lab and field data?

Lab metrics are a single simulated Lighthouse run. Field data is what real Chrome users experienced on your page over the last 28 days (CrUX). It's what Google uses for ranking, when enough traffic exists to report it.

Why is my score different each time I run it?

Lighthouse runs on shared Google infrastructure, so network and server variance moves scores a few points between runs. Watch the trend and the individual metrics, not a single number.

What's a good score?

90+ is good, 50-89 needs improvement, below 50 is poor, per Google's own bands. For Core Web Vitals, aim for LCP under 2.5 seconds, INP under 200 ms, and CLS under 0.1 at the 75th percentile.
