Background Remover

AI background removal that runs on your device — the photo never leaves your browser, and the result is a clean transparent PNG.

Runs entirely in your browser — your photo is never uploaded. The AI model (~44MB) downloads once and is cached.

The first run downloads a ~44MB AI model to your browser (then it's cached). Your photo itself never leaves your device.

Most background removers upload your photo to someone else's server, watermark the result, and charge credits for full resolution. This one flips the model: the neural network downloads to your browser once, and from then on everything — decoding, inference, compositing — happens on your own hardware.

Under the hood it runs ISNet, the research successor to U²-Net, accelerated by WebGPU where your browser supports it. That makes it genuinely private by architecture, not by promise: there is no server that could keep your photos.

Frequently asked questions

Is my photo uploaded anywhere?

No. The AI model runs inside your browser using WebGPU or WebAssembly. Your image is processed on your own device and never touches our servers — you can even disconnect from the internet after the model has loaded.

Why does the tool download a ~44MB model?

The neural network that separates subject from background has to live somewhere. Instead of uploading your photo to a server, we send the model to you, once. Your browser caches it, so future visits start instantly.

What images work best?

Clear subjects — people, products, animals, vehicles — on reasonably distinct backgrounds. It's a general-purpose model (ISNet, the research successor to U²-Net), so it handles most photos well, including hair and fine edges. Very busy scenes or subjects that blend into the background are harder.

Why is it slower on my device?

On browsers with WebGPU (current Chrome and Edge, recent Safari) removal takes a couple of seconds. Without it, we fall back to WebAssembly on the CPU, which can take up to a minute for large photos. Either way it's your hardware doing the work, which is what keeps it private.
